Capital looks fine to visitor

I was interested in the comments by the writer on the impact of bird droppings on visitors to Victoria.

He had, presumably, flown in all the way from Saanich. I have just popped around the corner from England and I am on my third visit in as many years.

I have been coming here for more than 20 years.

While I don't see Victoria as quintessentially British, it and its inhabitants have a charm that is most attractive. It is not perfect but then, I would not wish to portray where I live - the English Riviera in Devon - as perfect. And, yes, business owners have a responsibility for the appearance of their own premises but isn't that true the world over, and don't people the world over draw their own conclusions about a business that is patently failing to set an acceptable standard?

Free wireless, while not a compelling reason for jetting 8,000 kilometres, is an asset that complements the other assets in a tourist area, a component of a hopefully compelling whole.
