Bring shore power to cruise ships

Re: “Victoria ‘closer’ as cruise home port,” March 23.

This is a significant move up for Victoria’s economy, and will provide many job opportunities.

I don’t live in the neighbourhood where the cruise ships dock, but I have been there a few times when I experienced the not-so-lovely odour of a ship belching exhaust into the prevailing onshore breeze. It would be a trying experience for me to be located in that neighbourhood during cruise-ship season.

I think the first thing on the to-do list is to establish shore-power outlets for all the 240 ships expected to berth in Victoria.
