Bring in high fines for distracted driving

I was one who offered some advice to the government when they were developing a strategy regarding distracted drivers (cellphone users), and at the time suggested stiff penalties for offenders.

Obviously the fines are not high enough for people.

There is no excuse for this behaviour in light of the possible ramifications affecting other road users and innocent pedestrians who could be affected by the selfish attitude of those who still think it's OK to text or talk on the phone while driving.

Driving is a privilege and those who fail to abide by the rules need to go. Make the fines so expensive nobody would dare break them. Right now, it's just a joke.
