Arena liquor suspension a waste of resources

Re: "Arena liquor ban to be appealed," Sept. 15.

So a few 17-year-old boys sipped on some $7 beers at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre five years ago.

They didn't leave the arena and crash their car, they didn't cause a drunken brawl in the stands. They just drank some beer, like underage boys do every weekend in bush parties and basements throughout the region.

Since then, the arena management firm, RG Properties, has launched a number of appeals to its liquor suspension, and have no doubt paid considerable legal costs. Taxpayers have likely paid for lawyers on the liquor authority's behalf.

And when this is all done, and if the suspension is upheld, thousands of Victoria taxpayers will enjoy the privilege of no beer at six more events this year.

What a waste of time and resources on both sides.
