There was a lovely photo on the front page of Sunday’s Times Colonist, depicting a member of HMCS Regina’s crew “poised for action,” under the headline: “On guard for thee.”
On guard against what? Jody Wilson-Raybould? The Venezuelan navy? Military spending is currently budgeted at about $28 billion, on its way to a planned $70 billion. Meanwhile, federal funding to address the greatest threat to human security, human degradation of the environment, has remained static for years at about $1.5 billion. Perhaps we should consider tweaking priorities a bit.
