I am about to lose one of my major reasons for subscribing to the Times Colonist: The weekly columns of Robert Amos.

His reviews of individual exhibitions have been insightful and informative, and his interviews are revelations of authentic interpersonal encounters. His portrayal of the culture and ambience of a city he loves and his dedication to its history are unique.

He is the best kind of teacher, following the direction of the Roman writer Horace, who, like Amos, was both artist and critic, to simultaneously instruct and delight.
