Having recovered from Christmas celebrations our thoughts turn to the new year. I’m always amazed that no matter how many times we try (and fail), we make new resolutions for the coming year. Human beings are perpetually hopeful. We are in a season of hope.
The new year is a good time for reflecting on where we are, where we’ve been and where we would like to to be going. In our busy world it is important sometimes to step back and think about what is really important in life. I would hope, though, that we not do this for purposes of nostalgia or guilt, but in reflection and thoughtfulness — to encounter ourselves and the God who accompanies us through our life’s journey.
