Woman's screams alert neighbours to man trying to get into her home

A man with previous convictions for sexual assault and kidnapping was arrested Monday after someone tried to break into an Esquimalt woman’s home. Police were called to an area near Fleming Beach, by Macaulay Point, about 9:30 p.m.

A man with previous convictions for sexual assault and kidnapping was arrested Monday after someone tried to break into an Esquimalt woman’s home.

Police were called to an area near Fleming Beach, by Macaulay Point, about 9:30 p.m. for a report that neighbours were holding a man down.

Witnesses told police the woman screamed for help as the man tried to enter her home through a window.

Several neighbours heard her and responded, chasing after the man when he ran off.

A 63-year-old Victoria man was arrested without incident and remains in custody.

Police are recommending charges of trespassing at night, breaking-and-entering and assault.
