Victoria police are asking for more witnesses as they continue their investigation into a Sunday incident where a woman was seen lighting a series of grass fires in Beacon Hill Park.
Police receive a report about 5:50 p.m. that a woman was setting fires near Simcoe Street with a small torch. People who saw what was happening followed her and doused the flames.
The suspect was later pepper-sprayed by an officer when she attempted to steal a van, then ran off before being arrested and broke into a suite in a multi-unit residential building where she took a shower.
The break-in sent a resident of the suite outside to flag down police.
Call Victoria police at 250-995-7654, extension 1, with any information.
