Wind warning called off, some homes without power

Windy conditions led to a number of power outages through early Sunday afternoon, with Metchosin, Sooke, Oak Bay and Victoria the hardest hit.

Windy conditions led to a number of power outages through early Sunday afternoon, with Metchosin, Sooke, Oak Bay and Victoria the hardest hit.

A downed wire had a combined total of about 350 residences without power in Metchosin and Sooke by approximately 12:45 p.m., and repairs are due to be complete about 5 p.m. Power went out around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

There were about 300 Oak Bay residences and 300 in Victoria with their power out due to undetermined causes, also in the early afternoon. Oak Bay repairs were done by mid-afternoon and Victoria outages were down to 75.

Campbell River was the hardest-hit on the north Island with about 420 customer outages through the afternoon.

B.C. Ferries has not been reporting problems with wind delays

A wind warning was in effect through the morning, calling for southeast wind from 30 to 50 kilometres per hour, except for 70 in the early afternoon near Haro Strait. The wind warning was called off just after 1 p.m.
