Suspicious vehicles, a shoplifter and an arrest warrant combined to lead West Shore RCMP to substantial seizures of drugs, weapons and stolen goods.

It began May 18 when the detachment’s Drug and Organized Crime Unit, which was busy with another matter, spotted a woman who appeared to be selling marijuana from the trunk of her car while in a parking lot.

Possessing and selling marijuana may be legal, but using your trunk in the process isn’t, police said.

A 34-year-old Langford woman was arrested and more than $15,000 worth of marijuana was seized.

On May 19, a suspicious vehicle was reported at Goldstream Avenue and Wenger Terrace. Police discovered the driver had fled on a skateboard and the vehicle looked like it had been driven on its rims.

After investigating, police identified a 29-year-old Victoria man with an arrest warrant, who was arrested May 20. The arrest led to finding 34.57 grams of suspected cocaine, 33.68 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 11.69 grams of suspected methamphetamine, as well as bear spray, imitation firearms and over $1,000 cash.

The final case was on May 21, when an alleged prolific shoplifter was reported at the Colwood Corners London Drugs.

Surveillance footage showed a man taking a steamer and a hand mixer.

He was recognized by an officer who reviewed the footage, leading to a search that uncovered a collection of weapons and thousands of dollars in stolen property. Items found included more than a dozen knives, several sets of brass knuckles, a sword and ammunition.

The suspect is facing charges that include 10 counts of breach of probation, six counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Const. Meighan Massey said the cases back up the saying that there is no such thing as a routine police call.

“This kind of week shows exactly why that is,” she said. “Thorough investigations and hard work have yielded seizures that impact the community directly, removing unsafe cannabis, illicit drugs and prohibited weapons from our streets.”
