Water use in North Saanich can now return to normal.

According to the Capital Regional District, improved water flow coupled with a drop in use as temperatures stabilized have allowed the water supply and storage system to recover after record use a week ago.

The system was so taxed after record temperatures that residents and businesses in North Saanich were asked to cut back on water use for several days.

The Cloake Hill reservoir, near the northernmost tip of the Saanich Peninsula, struggled to keep up with demand.

Last Sunday, the region consumed a record 273 million litres of water. Typically, in winter, the region will consume about 90 million litres in a 24-hour period.

The CRD and North Saanich utility crews worked to resolve the shortage by adjusting valves in the distribution system, allowing more water to flow to the Cloake Hill reservoir.
