Victoria police seek public's help locating stolen mountain bike worth $10,000

Victoria police are trying to find a competitive mountain bike that belongs to a young athlete who was staying at a hotel on Douglas Street. The $10,000 bike was stolen from a locked storage area at the hotel around 5:45 p.m. Friday.

Victoria police are trying to find a competitive mountain bike that belongs to a young athlete who was staying at a hotel on Douglas Street.

The $10,000 bike was stolen from a locked storage area at the hotel around 5:45 p.m. Friday. Staff realized it was stolen around 9 p.m. Saturday and called police.

The bicycle is a 2017 black Devinci Spartan Carbon XL mountain bike, with black and charcoal lettering on the frame, custom handle bars, a red “Spank” rear rim, Rock-shox front suspension and “Schwalde” Big Barry tires.

To make matters worse, the custom bicycle was stolen on the young man’s birthday.

Police have released photos of the bicycle and of the man suspected of stealing it.

The suspect, who is captured on surveillance video, is five-foot-11 with a medium build and between 25 and 35 years old. He has short brown hair with a receding hairline that is thinning on top. He was wearing a blue jacket, black pants and black shoes and was carrying a black bag at the time of the theft.
