A Victoria senior owned his electric-assist bicycle for just one day before it was stolen Tuesday from James Bay.

The brand-new bicycle had been stored in a locked area of a parking area for a multi-family building in the 600 block of Toronto Street.

The man told Victoria police that he needs the bicycle — a black Raleigh Sprite iE — to get around the city.

A video camera captured scenes of the theft.

The suspect is a white male, about 45 years old, about six feet tall with a slim to medium build. He was wearing a blue parka-style jacket, a shiny black bike helmet and a dark-coloured baseball-style cap underneath. He was in blue jeans and hiking boots and carried a large black backpack.

Police ask anyone with information to call them at 250-995-7654. Anonymous calls can be made to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
