Victoria police are investigating several frauds thought to have cost businesses more than $50,000 in total.

Police said fraudsters are making transactions with stolen or fraudulent credit cards, manually entering the card numbers into point-of-sale terminals.

Businesses should monitor the use of POS terminals, and ensure customers are entering only their personal identification numbers or using the “tap” feature — not accessing administrative menus or manually entering card numbers, police said.

If a card number is entered manually, the receipt will say “manual,” police said.

Those spotting fraudulent use of POS terminals should cancel the transaction and call Victoria police at 250-995-7654 or their local police department. Reports can also be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
