Two Saanich men were arrested in a Victoria police operation aimed at an alleged drug trafficking operation targeting people with addiction issues.

The operation, which included the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, was launched after community complaints that the men were selling fentanyl and cocaine specifically to people at local shelters.

A search warrant was executed March 11 on Orion Place in Gordon Head, as well as on three vehicles. Officers found amounts of fentanyl and cocaine consistent with drug trafficking, and cash, police said.

The month-long investigation tracked the men as they allegedly sold drugs to some of the most marginalized people in the region.

Police noted the operation has come as B.C. deals with a deadly ongoing opioid epidemic, which includes drugs like fentanyl. The province recorded 1,716 from illicit drug overdoses in 2020 — more than in any other year.
