A 67-year-old man was arrested for an assault that was followed by his dog attacking the victim.

Saanich police officers called to Harriet Road and Burnside Road East about 9:35 p.m. on Thursday found a man in his 30s bleeding profusely from his face and head.

He had been injured at a home on Harriet, police said.

A dispute led to the older man, who lived in the home, hitting the younger man, said Sgt. Dean Jantzen.

“The resident’s dog latched onto the victim, as well,” Jantzen said. “It latched into his face.”

The dog was a mixed breed. Animal-control officers are investigating.
