Another patient and a staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 related to the outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, bringing the total infected to nine staff members and 10 patients.

Island Health said the outbreak is limited to acute care areas of the hospital and has not spread to the adjacent long-term care facility.

The hospital is closed to acute admissions, but the emergency department remains open. Lab service outpatient collections have temporarily moved to the Keating Cross Road lab, located at 2140A Keating Cross Rd.

In Port Alberni, outbreaks at West Coast General Hospital and Tsawaayuus Rainbow Gardens long-term care home are considered over.

The outbreak at West Coast General Hospital was declared Dec. 1, when a patient and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The medical-surgical wing where the outbreak occurred is now open to new admissions and transfers, and essential visitors can return to the hospital, the health authority said.

No new cases have been detected at Tsawaayuus Rainbow Gardens in a month, Island Health said. The outbreak there was declared on Nov. 16, after one staff and two residents tested positive for the virus.
