Traffic stop leads to impounded car, pending drug charges for Port Alberni man

Driving 130 km/h in the 60 km/h zone near Nanoose Bay led to an impounded car and pending drug charges for a Port Alberni man.

Officers from Central Island Traffic Services were carrying out speed enforcement Sunday on the stretch of Highway 19 known as Nanoose Flats when they stopped the driver. His speed brought a $483 fine and a seven-day impoundment.

While talking to the man, an officer noticed drug paraphernalia and a small bag of white powder that is believed to be illicit drugs. The man was released at the scene.

The officer has submitted a report to Road Safety B.C. calling for a driving prohibition because of the man’s driving history.
