Motorists should be prepared for minor delays, road closures and traffic restrictions today as up to 2,000 cyclists take to the streets for Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria.

All eight rides that comprise the day-long event start and finish around the B.C. legislature on Belleville Street.

Belleville will be closed from 3 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Government and Quebec streets. Belleville between the entrance to the Coho Ferry dock and Pendray Street will be closed from 11 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The horse carriage tour operators on Menzies Street will remain in place. Access to the Hotel Grand Pacific will be through Quebec Street. Ferry traffic for Port Angeles and Seattle can enter via Oswego Street.

Government Street between Superior Street and Humbolt and Wharf streets will be closed in 20-minute intervals between 7:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

Dallas Road and Camus Circle in Beacon Hill Park will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be full road closures on Crescent Road, Hollywood Crescent and the waterfront perimeter of James Bay, including Erie Street, Lawrence Street, Kingston Street, Montreal Street, Quebec Street and Pendray Street.

Residents who live on a waterfront road - or a road that can only be accessed by a waterfront road - will have access to their homes when there are breaks in the cyclists.

A full list of road closures and traffic restrictions in various municipalities during the day can be found at tourdevictoria.com.
