Thousands without power in capital region and on islands

Branches hitting power lines due to high winds led to power outages that hit thousands of customers in the capital region and Southern Gulf Islands on Tuesday.

By 2:30 p.m., outages affected 4,215 customers on the south Island, including in Sooke, Metchosin and Victoria, and on Salt Spring and Mayne islands.

Winds were gusting from 40 km/h up to 60 km/h, and expected to ease to 20 km/h winds gusting to 40 km/h in the late afternoon.
