Thieves left a trail of jewelry after they broke into a Lantzville jewelry store and smashed display cases Saturday night.
The heist targeted Keller’s Jewellers on Lantzville Road at about 5:20 a.m. The robbers forced their way into the business and smashed through glass cases to empty them of jewelry, according to Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.
Police were alerted to a commercial alarm and responded to the scene.
Witnesses told them a small car, possibly red or black, was seen speeding away. However, police are still trying to determine if the car is linked to the break-in.
Investigators found several pieces of jewelry scattered in the parking lot and one block away from the business.
