The cat came back after a week away

Missing cat Penelope has returned to her Vancouver Street home but there’s no hint of where she was or what she was doing during her week away.

Missing cat Penelope has returned to her Vancouver Street home but there’s no hint of where she was or what she was doing during her week away.

The four-year-old black cat is a familiar sight in the neighbourhood where she sits on the fence near the HarbourCats’ office door.

“She’s home. And she’s happy and healthy and in good condition,” owner Jacqueline Van Huizen said Saturday.

Penelope was waiting on the porch when Van Huizen opened the exterior door Friday morning.

“We don’t think that she was outside for that whole time. We think she must have been inside and someone was taking care of her.”

Penelope seemed a little spooked but acts as though she’d never been away, Van Huizen said.

Police received a report on April 30 that the four-year-old cat had been stolen. A surveillance video from the HarbourCats’ office was provided, showing a woman with a black cat. It turned out that the woman was just taking her own black cat to a vet visit.
