A forecast for winds up to 55 kilometres per hour has beached long-distance swimmer Susan Simmons in her plan to attempt a double crossing of Juan de Fuca Strait.

She was scheduled to leave Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Ogden Point for a round trip to Port Angeles.

Winds of 15 to 20 km/h were about what she was looking for because stronger winds could blow her off course.

Her swim could go ahead on Thursday, although weather conditions do not look favourable, while other possibilities are Saturday, next Tuesday, next Wednesday or Aug. 18 or 19.
