Stormy weather knocks out power to thousands on Island

Stormy weather caused multiple power outages on Vancouver Island on Friday. More than 1,200 customers on the east end of South Shore Road in Lake Cowichan lost power late Friday afternoon. B.C. Hydro did not have an immediate cause for the outage.

Stormy weather caused multiple power outages on Vancouver Island on Friday.

More than 1,200 customers on the east end of South Shore Road in Lake Cowichan lost power late Friday afternoon.

B.C. Hydro did not have an immediate cause for the outage.

On Pender Island, 298 customers lost power mid-day when a wire went down.

Another 492 customers were without power near Port Alberni., shortly before 5 p.m. The cause is under investigation.

A wire went down in Nanaimo east of Burnside Road, cutting off power to 795 customers.

Trees falling across wires in Courtenay resulted in power outages to more than 1,400 customers.

B.C. Hydro crews were either on site or on their way to restore power as of early Friday evening.
