A traffic stop in Nanaimo last week led to an arrest related to a stolen e-bike, thanks to an officer who recognized the vehicle.

At around 7:50 p.m. on July 12, Nanaimo traffic officers noticed a white Chevrolet Cavalier speeding excessively. Officers determined the vehicle was travelling more than 40 kilometres per hour over the 50 km/hr speed limit on Nicol Street.

Officers pulled the vehicle over and issued a ticket for excessive speed. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The officer recognized that the vehicle was associated with a stolen e-bike that had been recovered and the driver was arrested for being in possession of the stolen bike the previous day.

Charges have not been formally laid and the suspect is not being identified.
