A complimentary water taxi was moving people between Salt Spring Island’s Fulford Harbour and Swartz Bay Wednesday after the ferry Skeena Queen ran into mechanical problems.

The water taxi has a 15-passenger capacity.

Along with the that, the Mayne Queen was scheduled to provide an afternoon round trip of supplementary service, said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Astrid Chang.

The Skeena Queen has been having issues with two electrical generators, she said.

“We’re certainly keeping an eye on the repairs and how things are going, and will update our customers as soon as we know,” Chang said. “We’re also letting people know that the Bowen Queen continues to provide service between Vesuvius and Crofton, as scheduled.”

Another vessel, the Queen of Alberni was also not running on Wednesday. The ferry, which had been on the Duke Point-Tsawwassen route, has been out of service since Sunday due to a problem with its controllable pitch propeller.

The Coastal Celebration is on a revised schedule as a result, travelling between Victoria and Tsawwassen and Tsawwassen and Nanaimo, and some sailings today have been cancelled.
