The second of two Canadian Armed Forces marine-location markers dropped into Cowichan Lake during helicopter training has been located.

The devices, also known as smoke markers, did not activate as expected when dropped on Aug. 6. One was found Aug. 8 and the second one has now been found by the Fleet Diving Unit Pacific.

Such markers consist of a silver tube that burns intensely to produce light. They are designed to float and can wash up on the beach, and can pose a safety risk if mishandled.

The first marker was found floating in the lake near Youbou.
