Sean Smyth won a landslide victory Saturday’s byelection in Campbell River, according to preliminary results posted by the municipality.
Smyth received 1,003 votes out of a total of 2,439 ballots cast, the municipality said on its website.

His background is in the aviation sector. Smyth spent eight years on the Campbell River Airport Authority where he learned about local government and worked with the municipal council and staff.
Ken Blackburn was the closest competitor, with 477 votes.
A total of eight candidates competed for the seat: Douglas Chapman, Kealy Donaldson, Devon Garat, Stephen Jewell, Wes Roed, Laurel Sliskovic, Smyth and Blackburn.
