Saanich police investigating report of man grabbing woman in Rutledge Park

Saanich police are investigating a July 18 assault in Rutledge Park in which a man wrapped his arms around a woman from behind. Police said the woman was walking home through the park about 11 p.m. when the stranger approached.

Saanich police are investigating a July 18 assault in Rutledge Park in which a man wrapped his arms around a woman from behind.

Police said the woman was walking home through the park about 11 p.m. when the stranger approached. He didn’t say anything and released his grip when the woman kicked back at him.

He then fled the park.

The woman stayed until police arrived. They searched the area with the help of a police dog but nothing was found.

The woman was not physically injured but has been supported by victim services.

The suspect is described as white, six feet to six-foot-three and skinny with messy hair and scruffy facial hair. He was wearing dark pants and a Mexican-style knit sweater with black-and-grey stripes.
