Planning is underway for the 2021 Saanich Fair, with organizers set to hold the annual event on the Labour Day weekend.

“It may be a different Fair experience this year, but rest assured, there will be a 2021 Saanich Fair,” the North and South Saanich Agricultural Society said in a statement.

Last year’s fair was pared down, with junior entrants competing online — far different from the three-day event that normally attracts about 50,000 people.

This year’s fair is planned for Sept. 4 to 6.

The Saanich Fair is one of the region’s biggest events. All ages pour through the gates to view livestock, check out crafts and baking, visit food trucks, tour the midway and listen to live music.

“The society is actively exploring different options because, like everybody else, we don’t know what the Public Health Orders will be in September,” the society said.

“We are acutely aware that the fair must comply with health orders at the time of the fair — public safety is our first concern.

“There are different planning paths we need to follow so we can adapt to public health rules as they change over time.”
