Road closures for Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria Sunday

The fourth annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria takes to the streets Sunday with about 1,500 cyclists taking part. Participants will be following routes of 45, 100 or 145 kilometres. The 145-km ride starts at 7 a.m.

The fourth annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria takes to the streets Sunday with about 1,500 cyclists taking part.

Participants will be following routes of 45, 100 or 145 kilometres. The 145-km ride starts at 7 a.m. on Belleville Street, the 100-km ride gets underway about 8:30 a.m. from Langford’s Eagle Ridge Community Centre and the 45-km ride begins about 10:45 a.m. from the Interurban campus of Camosun College.

The routes will wind through Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula. The entire event should be complete by 3:45 p.m.

Motorists are advised to expect delays of as much as 20 minutes between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Pat Bay Highway and Sayward Road. Minor delays and traffic-pattern changes should also be expected at Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and Goldstream Avenue and at Sooke Road and Happy Valley Road.

The event is not a race, but rather a supported ride and all cyclists are required to obey the rules of the road.

Victoria

6:50-7:10 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Belleville Street, Government Street, Gorge Road East

Saanich

7:05-7:20 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Gorge Road West.

View Royal

7:10-7:30 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Island Hwy. and Old Island Hwy.

Colwood

7:20-8:10 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Ocean Boulevard, Milburn Drive, Hatley Drive, Metchosin Road

Metchosin

7:30-9:20 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Metchosin Road, Duke Road, William Head Road, Lombard Drive, Rocky Point Road, Liberty Drive, La Bonne Road, Barrow Road, Lindholm Road, Happy Valley Road

Langford

8-9:45 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Happy Valley Road, Glen Lake Road, Langford Parkway, Jacklin Road, Goldstream Avenue, Atkins Avenue

View Royal

8:20-10 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Atkins Avenue and Burnside Road West

Saanich

8:25-10:20 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Burnside Road West, Prospect Lake Road, and Munn Road

Highlands

8:35-11 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Munns Road and Willis Point Road

Highlands

8:35-11 a.m. — Northbound vehicle traffic only. Same direction as our cyclists on Millstream Lake Road and Ross Durrance Road

Saanich

9-11:20 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Willis Point Road and Wallace Drive. (Two-way traffic will be permitted on Willis Point Road controlled by traffic control personnel to allow residents from Millstream Road and Willis Point Road to exit to Wallace Drive.)

Central Saanich

9:05-11:45 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Wallace Drive, Garden Gate Drive, Benvenuto Avenue, West Saanich Road, and Old West Saanich Road. (Two-way traffic will be permitted on West Saanich Road)

Saanich (West of Pay Bay Hwy. 17)

9:15-1:30 p.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on with two-way traffic allowed on West Saanich Road when needed. Cyclists travel on Old West Saanich Road, Spartan Road, Prospect Lake Road, Burnside Road, Charlton Road, Granville Avenue, Hastings St., North Road, Interurban Road, Hector Road, Conway Road, Quayle Road, Beaver Lake Road, West Saanich Road, Old West Saanich Road, Oldfield Road, Doyle Road, Forest Hill Road, Elkwood Road, Brookleigh Road and Hamsterly Road

Saanich (East of Pat Bay Hwy. 17)

10 a.m.-2:45 p.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on. Cyclists travel on Sayward Avenue, Cordova Bay Road, Ash Road, Grandview Drive, Ferndale Road, Gordon Head Road, Arbutus Road, Queenswood Drive, Telegraph Bay Road, Arbutus Road, Phyllis Street, Tudor Avenue, Sea View Road, Cadboro Bay Road Please note that the roads on Ten Mile Point will be open to two-way traffic for residents. Additionally, Cadboro Bay Road, between Sinclair Road and Beach Drive will allow two-way traffic where needed to relieve traffic build-up.

Oak Bay

10:35 a.m.-3:15 p.m. — Full road closure on Beach Drive and King George Terrace.

Victoria

10:50 a.m.-3:45 p.m. — Full road closures on Crescent Road, Hollywood Crescent, Dallas Road and waterfront perimeter of James Bay including: Erie Street, St. Lawrence Street, Kingston Street, Montreal Street, Quebec Street, Pendray Street, and Belleville Street.

Inner Harbour

5 a.m.-6 p.m. — Full road closure on Belleville Street between Menzies Street and Government Street.
