Campbell River RCMP pulled a resident from a home early Friday after a vehicle left running in the garage filled the home with fumes.

The person was transported by paramedics for treatment of carbon-monoxide poisoning. One of three officers at the scene was taken by a colleague for treatment, as well.

At high concentrations, carbon monoxide can be fatal within minutes.

“The selfless actions of the members on scene to put themselves in harm’s way to help this person makes me extremely proud today,” said Insp. Jeff Preston, Campbell River RCMP detachment commander. “Their efforts without a doubt prevented a tragedy.”

He said the officer who went for treatment is in good spirits and should have no lasting effects from the incident.
