Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed a fatal hit-and-run in Chemainus on Sunday night.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say a male pedestrian was struck and killed in the 9900-block of Chemainus Road about 7:30 p.m.

The driver fled the scene before officers arrived to find a man lying dead beside the highway.

“Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, have dash cam footage or have information about this collision to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP,” media relations Cpl. Chris Manseau said in a news release.

“This is a busy section of road, and even though the weather wasn’t great, investigators feel there was enough traffic for someone to have seen or heard something that can assist the investigation.”

Police investigators, forensic experts and crash analysts are working with the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence and find the driver.
