RCMP looking for Courtenay shooter; victim in stable condition

A 32-year-old man who was shot Thursday is in stable condition in hospital, Comox Valley RCMP say.

Mounties responded to a report of gunfire about 5:50 a.m. in the 1900 block of Fitzgerald Avenue in Courtenay.

The victim was taken to hospital by B.C. Ambulance paramedics.

Information so far suggests the shooting was not random, police said.

No arrests have been made.

Members of the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit are investigating.

Forensic-identification officers and police-dog services have also been involved in the effort.

Witnesses told police that two vehicles were seen leaving the area before officers arrived — a blue/teal four-door Mazda and a white Chevrolet pickup without a canopy.

“The person responsible for this brazen act of violence needs to be held accountable and our investigators are committed to making that happen,” said Insp. Mike Kurvers, officer in charge of the Comox Valley RCMP detachment.
