A possible oil spill near the West Bay Marina in Esquimalt is being investigated.

The Canadian Coast Guard says a surveillance flight has found no evidence of an oil spill near the West Bay Marina.

An aircraft from the National Aerial Surveillance Program flew over the area Wednesday and noticed no pollution in the water, the agency said in an email.

The coast guard said the spill, which was spotted by a member of the public, might have been a “one-time bilge release.”

Esquimalt said its crews have eliminated the township’s pipes as a potential source of the oil or other hydrocarbon.

“The Canadian Coast Guard is the lead in the matter due to the marine location of the spill with township staff available to support as needed,” the township said in a statement.
