Organizers have cancelled this year’s edition of the Sunfest Country Music Festival as a result of COVID health restrictions, saying the event will return in 2022.

Sunfest was scheduled for July 29 -Aug. 2 at Laketown Ranch Music & Recreation Park in Lake Cowichan.

It’s the second consecutive year the festival has been cancelled. It’s set to return July 28-31, 2022, with the lineup to be announced at a later date.

“We are devastated to not be welcoming back all of your smiling faces this summer, but that just means we will all come back bigger and better in 2022,” festival organizers said in a statement.

Previously purchased festival and camping passes will be honoured for next year’s dates, according to organizers. Full refunds, less the ticketing company’s processing fee, are being given until 11:59 p.m. on May 21.
