Police to serve meal at Our Place

Our Place is a social agency that helps the region’s most vulnerable citizens, including the poor, the homeless and those with mental-health issues. In addition to giving out more than 1,200 meals each day, Our Place also offers counseling and other services.

Victoria Police Chief Frank Elsner said his department supports the efforts of Our Place staff to help those in need.

On Saturday, the public is invited to get involved in helping others by taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year, a fundraising walk to benefit the Mustard Seed Food Bank. The event is part of a national initiative that began in Ontario in 2011 and has since spread to over 60 communities across the country.

The Victoria event will begin with a 4 p.m. registration at the Mustard Seed, 625 Queens Ave. Opening ceremonies are at 5 p.m., with participants invited to sign up as individuals or teams to set out on walking routes of two, five or 10 kilometres.
