A Victoria police officer was bitten by a suspect while arresting her for two random assaults Sunday night.

Police were called to the intersection of Government and Wharf streets about 10 p.m. to deal with a report that a woman had assaulted two people and was being held at the scene by the victims.

When the first officer to arrive went to make an arrest, she fought with him, then bit him before he got her into custody.

The victims reported that the suspect spat in both of their faces while they kept her from leaving.

The woman was held in police cells until she was sober and then released on conditions, pending a court date.

Police said the officer and the victims require medical treatment related to the biting and spitting, since bodily fluids can spread disease.
