Saanich police are appealing for witnesses as they investigate a report of a man committing an indecent act Sunday at Hamsterly Beach at Elk Lake.
A witness reported seeing a man masturbating while sitting on a chair at the beach about 4:15 p.m. The male appeared to be watching children on the beach near the water’s edge.
The man is described as Caucasian, in his late 50s or 60s, 5’6” tall, medium to heavy build, and wearing a beige “Tilley” style hat, a beige shirt and dark shorts. He had a webbed folding chair.
Police said the suspect left the Hamsterly Beach parking lot in a beige SUV with a large bike rack on the back prior to their arrival.
“While our officers continue to investigate this disturbing incident, we are appealing to the public for any information, as the beach and surrounding area were very busy over the weekend and there may be witnesses out there that have yet to come forward,” said Const. Markus Anastasiades.
