A man sustained non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning when he was struck by a B.C. Transit bus.

Victoria police were called about 8:15 a.m. to the 2800-block of Douglas Street and Garbally Road, next to the bus yard. B.C. Ambulance paramedics were already on scene and transported the man to hospital.

Officers determined the man had tried to cross Douglas Street in a spot where there are no pedestrian controls. They don’t believe the bus driver was at fault.

B.C. Transit said it is supporting police efforts.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in the incident; the pedestrian, the passengers on board and our transit operator,” B.C. Transit said in a statement. “Our top priority is safety, and B.C.Transit will also be undertaking an internal investigation.”

Call Victoria police at 250-995-7654 with any information about the incident, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
