Everyone aboard a sinking vessel off Gabriola Island on Sunday was rescued.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre received a mayday call at 1:26 p.m. about a vessel in distress off the north tip of Gabriola Island, east of Nanaimo, and notified air and sea rescue personnel.

With three Canadian Coast Guard vessels — Canadian Siyay, No. 27 Nanaimo, and Cape Naden — on the scene quickly, the air crews were instructed to stand down before departing, said Capt. Chelsea Dubeau, public affairs officer for Maritime Forces Pacific.

Dubeau said there were 14 people on board and all were recovered from the sinking vessel.
