One person was taken to hospital after an SUV crashed into a Saanich tea shop on Thursday night.

The driver put the car into drive instead of reverse and crashed through the front window of Ding Tea at Shelbourne Village Square, near Cedar Hill Cross Road and Shelbourne Street, said Acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie of Saanich police.

The vehicle struck a bystander. The woman, who is in her 20s, was taken to Royal Jubilee Hospital with injuries described as minor.

Saanich police, firefighters and B.C. Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene about 9:45 p.m.

The driver, also in his 20s, was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention.

Police have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.
