The driver of a car was killed in a collision with a pickup truck in Port Alberni on Tuesday.

The crash happened at the intersection of Burde Street and Carriere Road, with Port Alberni RCMP, the Port Alberni Fire Department and B.C. Ambulance responding about 11:35 a.m.

Both vehicles wound up in a nearby ditch. The car ended up on its roof.

The truck driver was hospitalized with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Port Alberni RCMP Cpl. Amelia Hayden said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash, but visibility was poor because of dense fog.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating, and RCMP Victim Services is helping the families involved.

There was a second fatal crash later in the day on Tuesday when dump truck travelling on Highway 4 about eight kilometres west of Port Alberni collided head-on with two other vehicles shortly after 4:30 p.m. One of the drivers died in the crash, while the other two had injuries described as minor.
