Early on March 24, GVHA employees work to close and gate the entrance to the upper and lower Ogden Point breakwater.

Ogden Point Breakwater will reopen to the public at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20 with new COVID-19 rules in place.

Visitors will be asked to stay at least two metres away from others, walk in single file and keep children and pets close. Anyone who is not feeling well is asked to stay home, and the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority is recommending that visitors wear masks.

The breakwater was closed March 24 because visitors were not following physical distancing guidelines, and it could close again if the same behaviour occurs, the harbour authority said.

The breakwater normally sees more than 450,000 visits every year, it said.
