The Oak Bay Beach Hotel has been named the top hotel in Canada and No. 19 worldwide according to the readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

The annual readers’ poll, that gets hundreds of thousands responses each year, noted the hotel is inspired by an English manor house with Tudor-influenced architectural touches.

“It is a great honour to receive this recognition from Condé Nast Traveler’s esteemed readership,” said hotel general manager Madone Pelan. “Personalized service and meaningful connections are at the core of everything we do. This award recognizes the best in the industry and is a great testament to the dedication, passion, and resilience our employees have embodied every day during this challenging year.”

The annual poll takes readers’ responses rating travel experiences between April and the end of May. Hotels, islands, destinations and countries are rated on a set of criteria relevant to their category.

This year the readers’ choice awards also recognized the Magnolia Hotel in Victoria on the list of the top-15 hotels in Canada. The Magnolia was ranked 12th.

The Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino was named the second-best resort in Canada, and the Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa in Victoria was ranked seventh on that list.

Vancouver Island was named the No. 5 island in “the rest of North America,” which does not include the U.S.
