North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are investigating an assault with a weapon that resulted in a death early Monday.
Police responded just after 1 a.m. after several reports were received about an assault in the area of Cowichan Lake Road. They found two men outside a residence, with one of them suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The other man immediately surrendered to officers and remains in custody.
The injured man was transported to hospital and later pronounced dead.
“While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, police believe this was an isolated incident and their is no ongoing risk to the general public,” said Staff Sgt. Chris Swain.
The B.C. Coroners Service is also involved.
