The municipality of North Cowichan will appeal a B.C. Supreme Court order directing it to reconsider its decision against allowing the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit to expand.

North Cowichan announced its decision to file an appeal in a press release on Thursday.

Last week, Justice Diane MacDonald quashed council’s decision to refuse a required development permit, saying track owners were entitled to an explanation.

Council had not explained why it approved the first track, which opened in 2016, but turned down a subsequent application, she said, ordering the municipality to revisit its decision.
