The province announced 43 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total of people who have tested positive for the disease in B.C. to 1,618. There were no new deaths reported.

There were no new cases in the Island Health region, which has had 94 confirmed cases and three deaths.

The Vancouver Coastal region has had 680 cases, Fraser Health 661, Interior Health 150, and Northern Health 33.

Of those who have tested positive, 966 are considered to be fully recovered.

There are 119 individuals in hospital with COVID-19, including 52 in intensive or critical care units.

Sixty-three people associated with the Mission Institution federal correctional centre have tested positive for COVID-19, and six are in hospital.

There are outbreaks at 20 long-term care and assisted-living facilities and in one acute-care unit.

Not everyone who might have COVID-19 is tested, and actual cases are likely higher than the confirmed cases.

Guidelines from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control limit testing to people who are hospitalized or likely to be hospitalized, health-care workers, residents in long-term care and people who are part of an investigation for a cluster outbreak.
