A man riding a BMX bike after midnight on Sunday with no helmet and no light, along with a hoodie pulled over his head and and a bandanna over his face, turned out to have a weapon in an unusual place.

When he was searched by an Oak Bay police officer, a 26-inch sword was found tucked down his pants.

The man had also been riding with two large sports bags on his handle bars when he was pulled over.

When he was told he had been stopped for cycling without a helmet or light, he gave a false name and tried to flee on the bike.

He was caught and arrested for two warrants and breaching seven conditions of his probation. Along with the sword, the officer located break-and-enter tools and a debit card that did not belong to the man.

A substance believed to be methamphetamine was also found and it is believed the bike he was riding was stolen.
